- Medela Sonata Smart Double Electric Pump -This one is smaller and discreet, (compared to the first one) great for carrying into and out of the office. The suction on this one is also comparable to that of the Symphony
- EvenFlo Feeding Double Electric Breast Pump – This was my personal second back up electric pump that I used at work. It is very quiet while you are plugged in and pumping. It’s performance is great, and it comes with all the double items you need in a breast pump.
- You can see all the breast pumps that your insurance can cover you for right here.

3. The Ultimate Back to Work Pumping Class
This one course helped me increase my breast milk supply when I went back to work. It is taught by a real life lactation consultant who wants you to succeed in your breastfeeding and pumping journey.
If you have been exclusively pumping, this course will still teach you a few things you may have not known.
If you are exclusively breastfeeding and going back to work will be your first experience with your breast pump you need to take this class.
PROS | CONS |
---|---|
MOST AFFORDABLE COURSE ON PUMPING I’VE EVER SEEN | THE AUDIO IS A LITTLE LOW – WEAR HEADPHONES WHEN YOU LISTEN IN |
ACCESS TO ONLINE CLASS 24/7 | |
HELPS YOUR SUPPLY, STORAGE SYSTEMS AND HOW TO FEEL COMFORTABLE PUMPING AT WORK |
4. Nipple Pads
You can either get disposable nipple pads or cotton nipple pads.
What we love about the disposable nipple pads: the plastic lining in the back and adhesiveness that sticks to the bra makes sure you don’t leak breast milk when you wear them.
What we love about cotton nipple pads: you can easily wash them and use them over and over meaning you pay less for more. Saving money and the planet with no plastic.
I personally tried both and found myself drawn to the these nipple pads.
5. Hands Free Pumping Bra
If you decide on anything on this list, it should be a breast pump and this hands free pumping bra. It is a game changer for pumping at work.
6. Pumping Cooler
This is the one I had and used for 6 months after returning to work. It held up great and left my milk at the perfect temperature to store when I got back home.
If you want more detailed reviews of which is best for you. (like if you have an over supply and need to keep a lot of milk cold, or if you are going to be working over 8+ hours) You have to check out our review of the best breast milk coolers on the market right now.

7. Pumping Bag
No matter how far away or how close you will be working from your home you will need to have a pumping bag that you can store all your items in and take to and from work.
In an ideal world you’d be able to leave your breast pump and have a back up one at home and you’d be able to store your freshly pumping milk in the common work fridge.
But not all employers can offer something like this. Having a pumping bag that is large enough to fit your things and easily put a pump in can help you keep pumping for the long haul.
8. Large Water Bottle
If you are going to continue your breastfeeding journey you know you will need to be chugging water left and right. Not only does breastfeeding make you super hungry it increases your thirst.
Try one of these awesome water bottles
The Mira 40oz Stainless Steel Water Bottle is one of the best for two BIG reasons. 1. It keeps your water super cold all day. 2. It’s 40oz which means less refill trips!
If you thought the water bottle above was large this 85 oz water jug will is literally all you need to drink when you are breastfeeding. Fill it up once and you are set all day!
9. Extra Pumping Parts
Depending on which pump you have you may need extra flanges, tubes, vales and membranes.
I know… what the heck! But if your membrane rips (which happened to me) you won’t be able to pump.
If your valve stops working – you won’t be able to pump.
If your tube rips and doesn’t suction – you won’t be able to pump.
Having these extra parts makes sure that anything that can go wrong (and it might) you’ll be prepared and ready for it.
Now that you have these 9 items in your arsenal you are sure to be successful at pumping at work as a breastfeeding mom. Let’s review the top 9 items you’ll need.
