Leave New York behind and travel 95 miles south to the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia is a great weekend vacation for families and history aficionados because it is the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence.

Set your sights on the city’s must-see institutions from there, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, and the Franklin Institute.
North Fork
If you appreciate calm beach communities and laid-back itineraries, Long Island’s northeastern peninsula, known as the North Fork, is the place to go for your next weekend getaway.

The Catskills
This mountain range in Southeastern New York is ideal for nature lovers looking to reconnect with the great outdoors. For decades, the Catskills have been inspiring vacationers as the site of the historic 1969 Woodstock Music Festival.
Spend the weekend trekking the popular trails in the New York State region (the Kaaterskill Falls route has the state’s tallest waterfall), or kayaking on Alder Lake. In the winter, come here to see Hunter Mountain covered in snow and to enjoy the best skiing and tubing in the area.
The Finger Lakes
The Finger Lakes of New York, which consist of 11 lakes and include the popular shorelines of Seneca Lake, Skaneateles Lake, and Cayuga Lake, are known for their excellent water activities, picturesque state parks, and world-class wine.
The Finger Lakes region has established a reputation as a preferred location for romantic weekend getaways as one of the country’s most important wine areas and the state’s largest wine-producing area.
Niagara Falls
You may spend a weekend gazing at one of the world’s most magnificent and impressive natural wonders, Niagara Falls if you’re prepared to take a short trip (or join a bus tour).
While the 188-foot Niagara Falls is guaranteed to take your breath away, it isn’t the only reason to plan a weekend visit to Niagara Falls.
This popular tourist destination provides everything you need for a fun-filled weekend away, including gorgeous botanical gardens, wineries, and casinos.
Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C., has long captivated historians and politicians with its plethora of historic structures, monuments, and museums (many of which are free to visit).
The nation’s capital, however, is more than meets the eye. Washington is a treasure vault ready to be unlocked, with more than 30 neighborhoods to discover.
The Shaw-U Street Corridor has great nightlife and impeccable cuisine, premium shopping in Georgetown, elegant 19th-century row houses in Dupont Circle, and a slew of historic sights on Capitol Hill.
Kingston
One of the numerous romantic getaways in NY is Kingston and the surrounding environs.
Kingston, New York’s former capital, today features a small historic district (the Stockade District) where you may stroll past stone houses, view old churches, and grab a bargain at the farmer’s market.
Le Canard Enchaine and Diego’s Taqueria are two of the many lovely restaurants and cafes in the area. The Kinsley, a boutique hotel in the Stockade district set over four 19th-century buildings, is also a fantastically lovely location to stay.
Cold Spring
When it comes to beautiful, romantic retreats, visitors to New York State are spoiled for choice. The Hudson Valley alone has several fantastic possibilities, including the beautiful village of Cold Spring, which is one of the most romantic.
After all, this is a spot so charming that it even has its own trolley and gazebo. Plus, whatever your hobbies as a pair are, you’ll have no trouble finding something to do here.
Woodstock
Saugerties
Book a room at the Diamond Mills Hotel for your romantic weekend in Saugerties. It’s been constructed to provide beautiful, panoramic views of the charming waterfall that once powered a nearby paper mill.
All of the rooms have balconies with views of the falls and high-top tables where you can relax with a cup of coffee in the morning or a bottle of wine in the afternoon.
To help make your weekend getaway feel particularly special, the rooms here have high-thread-count sheets, fluffy bathrobes, and radiant-floor heat in the bathrooms.
Hudson
On your list of the most romantic things to do in Hudson, what’s first? Take a magnificent river tour from the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, of course. It’s one of the most romantic retreats in upstate New York just because of this.
Because, believe it or not, this is the Hudson River’s northernmost lighthouse – a structure that is still working today, despite the fact that it was built in 1874!
Sodus
Wolcott is ideal for outdoor-loving couples because it is home to one of upstate New York’s most beautiful national parks, Chimney Bluffs State Park. This is a must-see if you’ve never been.
The bluffs are some of the coolest-looking things on the planet, with an almost alien-like appearance. As a result, you have the distinct impression that you have left New York. This is also a great site for sunset photography, so be sure to bring your camera.
Owego
The town of Owego is one of the most lovely and adorable destinations in upstate New York for a romantic weekend.
This quaint town, located on the Susquehanna River in New York’s Finger Lakes region, is full of old storefronts that welcome you into a variety of cute eateries, cafes, boutiques, and antique shops.
One of our favorite things to do in Owego was to take a walk down the riverfront, where we could see the lovely buildings located atop the hill and overlooking the river.
Lake George
If you’re looking for a romantic weekend in upstate New York, look no further than Lake George – the lovely lake that the town is named after.
You’ll find something to enjoy in Lake George, whether you’re looking for some peace and quiet on the lake, want to go hiking in the mountains, want to lavishly wine and dine your sweetheart, or want to fully scare the snot out of yourself.
Watkins Glen
The beautiful village of Watkins Glen, nestled at the base of Seneca Lake, is a terrific place that delivers a powerful punch and is certainly one of the best romantic vacations in upstate New York.
A 3-mile round trip stroll along Watkins Glen State Park’s breathtakingly picturesque Gorge route is, of course, the obvious and unmissable highlight of any trip here.
To really experience the out-of-this-world vibe that this beautiful site exudes, arrive early and beat the expected crowds.
Seneca Falls
It’s a Wonderful Life is one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies. And, in case you haven’t seen it yet, Bedford Falls, New York is the setting for this Christmas classic. Bedford Falls, believe it or not, was planned to mimic the town of Seneca Falls in several ways.
Yes, even Frank Capra came to town for inspiration, with his film classic It’s a Wonderful Life being preserved at the local It’s a Wonderful Life Museum.
Wilmington
If you travel during the winter, you can enjoy a romantic weekend in Wilmington’s gorgeous winter setting.
After a day of skiing at Whiteface Mountain, you may curl up in front of a crackling fire and sip a nice cup of hot cocoa.
You may also visit Santa’s workshop and see his eight little reindeer in North Pole, NY, which is just outside of Wilmington, if you schedule your visit just so this place is primarily for little kids and would be an ideal stop for families.
Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Springs’ tale is both physical and symbolically effervescent. The natural spring waters that give Saratoga Springs their name have been a famous tourist attraction in Saratoga for decades, and they are not simply a colorful and effervescent site.
These magical waters continue to draw travelers seeking their therapeutic abilities, and the community that has built up around them has become one of upstate New York’s cultural centers.
